Dear Sir /Madam,
REVIEW OF PROMOTION POLICY : CLERICAL TO OFFICERS CADRE TRAINEE OFFICER CHANNEL
Please refer to our e-Circular No.CDO/P&HRD-IR/13/2008-09 dated 6th May 2008. 2. As per Memorandum of Settlement dated 16th April 2008 entered into between our Bank and All India SBI Staff Federation, promotion policy for workmen staff is in vogue in the bank from 2008-09. As per the provisions of the policy, an Assistant will become eligible to appear for Trainee Officer examination on completion of 3 years of service as on 1st April of the respective promotion years. 3. From the perusal of Bio-data of recently recruited clerical staff and feedback received from Circles, it is observed that most of these young people are ready to take challenges, higher responsibilities and are aspiring for higher positions. It is, therefore, essential to not only utilise them in effective manner for business development but also to formulate a faster career path for them. At the same time due to present eligibility criteria of minimum 3 years of service, during the last 4-5 years same pool of candidates were appearing in the promotion exercise. Resultantly, vacancies remained unfilled. 4. It has, therefore, been decided to reduce the minimum service eligibility criteria for promotion to officer cadre under Trainee Officer channel, from present 3 years to 2 years. All other criteria will remain unchanged. 5. Taking into consideration the past trends and also the opportunities now available, in consequence of reduction of minimum service eligibility criteria from 3 to 2 years, it has also been decided to conduct a supplementary examination for promotion from clerical cadre to JMGS-I under Trainee Officer channel for the promotion year 2010-11 during the month of October 2010 with cut-off date for reckoning service eligibility criteria as 30th September 2010 with revised service eligibility norm of 2 years service. 6. This supplementary exercise will be a one-time exercise only and future promotion exercises for promotion under Trainee Officer channel will be conducted as hitherto with eligibility date as 1st April of the respective promotion years. 7. As this will be a supplementary examination for current promotion year 2010-11, annual reports in respect of the eligible candidates upto 31st March 2010 shall be considered. 8. Please bring the contents of this circular to the notice of all concerned. Yours faithfully, for Dy. Managing Director & Corporate Development Officer
